Full of shops, boutique type stores, bars, restaurants, and coffee shops. They have a few condo complexes right in the downtown area and many local residents walk to the downtown area for coffee, dinner, or a drink. You will see people walking around the downtown area. A good police prescence helps keeps crime to a minimum. The other reason I say it is so good that the crime is low is sometimes when there is easy high access to Royal Oak. Criminals like easy highway access so they can do there crime and get away fast. That does not seem like it happens in Royal Oak luckily.

Here is a little tidbit of information for you. Royal Oak developed around a river, the Red Run. Vinsetta Boulevard was built skirting a source branch of the Red Run for its median. In the 1930s, Vinsetta's entire median, along with the river and all but the tops of the bridges for the crossing streets were filled in as part of a WPA project during the Great Depression. During 1967–8, the rest of the river in Oakland County was buried within a six-foot drain pipe.
