Downtown Birmingham MIIt has a very beautiful downtown area.  The community only covers 4.73 square miles, the community is able to maintain the feel of a small town, while also experiencing the benefits and amenities off an affluent urban area.

Here is a little history of  Birmingham.  The formal settlement of the area now known as Birmingham started about 180 years ago.  Which is like a baby compared to some of the old towns in Massachusetts.  The pioneer story of this small Michigan community began when four men purchased the first piece of land totaling up to 640 acres. Birmingham founders did not do the traditional farming land, they started a manufacturer based local economy, which included Foundries, tanneries, blacksmith shops, broom and brick making factories.

Are Birmingham MI schools good?

Birmingham is one of the top school districts in Michigan and has continuously strived to support students and faculty members especially during these troubling times. ... Overall, the Birmingham school district is great and is continuously working to better education and impact the lives of students.

The Birmingham School District serves Birmingham.  And there are excellent private schools nearby.  Private Schools like Country Day, Cranbrook, Brother Rice, and Marion provide excellent education for any student that wish to go there.  Birmingham residents place an extremely high value on education as a large percentage of the residents have college degrees. The parents expect the  schools to provide their children with the best possible learning environment and a curriculum that will prepare them for a successful future. The Birmingham Public Schools staff is continuously striving to outdo themselves and, as a result, the schools have always ranked among the highest achieving in the state. Even as they face cuts to funding, they are constantly looking for ways to improve their curriculum or to deliver it in an innovative way.

The city services are very good.  Response times for police, fire, and ambulance are very good.  Plus there is a world class hospital (Beaumont) just a few miles down the street.  The Birmingham Police Department prides itself on providing high quality professional services and law enforcement to all who live, work, and travel to the city of Birmingham. The chief of police is responsible for the entire operational part of the Department. He accomplishes this with the assistance of the deputy chief of police that is on staff. The Department is divided into two Divisions - the Patrol & Services Division and the Investigative Division. The primary goal of the Department is protection of life and property, prevention of crime and apprehension of criminal perpetrators. The Department strives to provide a safe and secure environment for the residents of the City and to those who work, travel and shop here as well.
