How to Make Your Move Easier on Your Family
People generally have two kinds of needs during a home purchase. First are the real estate/mortgage needs, such as searching for a home, obtaining financing, negotiating the terms of purchase, signing paperwork and legal documents.. The second are emotional needs, which are usually more stressful than the financial ones. Here are some tips to help ease the stress.
So you have been looking at Michigan homes for sale and you have found your home of your dreams. Whether you purchased Livonia real estate, Plymouth real estate, or anyMetro Detroit home here is how to make it easier on you and your family.
Plan ahead
Try to plan your move as much as possible in advance. Get your financial paperwork ready for the mortgage person. Make lists of what you need to do. Pack away unneeded items. Pick out the colors of paint. Remember everything does not have to be perfect right away. By using the checklists below will help make the move easier. Planning ahead will relieve you of the last minute running around and relieve a lot of stress.
Prepare your children and pets
Although you may have lived in your current home for just a few years, five years is half the lifetime of an ten-year-old. Your home is where their friends are. Your home is special to them. It may be the only home your children remember. It´s where they feel safe and it´s probably the center of your child's world. It is a stressful time for them too.
Be sure to announce the move in a completely upbeat way. You might talk about how many children are in the neighborhood, how the parks are close. How beautiful the new neighborhood is and how good the schools are. Bring your children along on the process of buying a new house. Let them pick out their new room and paint colors. (after you decide which home you want and the deal is signed) Find out what your children's favorite things are in your current home, and then try to re-create them in the new house. Or try to get them something that they have been wanting in the old house. It might be a play set or a play house. Keep your children actively involved. For instance, take them shopping for paint, beds, carpets, and other items for their new room.
Your children are bound to have worries during the move. Help lessen these anxieties by finding ways to make parting pleasant. For example, plan a going-away party or create a photo album with pictures of neighbors, their house and the neighborhood.
Take your pets to the new house. Make sure their is a secure area for the pets to be kept while people are running in and out of the house during the moving process. You don't want to lose the family pet during the move.
Gain knowledge
A home is the biggest investment a person makes in their life. So it is natural to be uneasy. The more you know about the process the more comfortable you will feel. Read the various articles about buying a home that I have on this website. Read about mortgages and credit. It will make you feel better about your situation. Knowledge like they say is power. As you begin the process, you may start to feel out of control, as though other parties to the purchase transaction are running the show. Your mortgage company, the appraiser, the inspector, and the seller all have certain powers to approve or disapprove of your overall plan to purchase this home and move successfully. You will feel better knowing how to solve the problems and why some things are done certain ways. Work with your real estate agent to prepare yourself for the unknown and tie down loose ends. Know about the different common buyer mistakes.
Trust your agent and the process
Your agent has bought and sold Wayne county homes, Livingston county homes, and Oakland county home. Trust him to look out for your best interest and that he is trying to make your move as smooth as possible. There can be so much to do that it's easy to panic. Buying a home is the biggest investment you make, it is okay to feel nervous.may feel risky, but the truth is it´s an opportunity for you and your family. Even though you can't predict what will happen every step of the way, your real estate agent helps people buy and sell homes as a profession! Your agent has been there before and understands that this is a major upheaval in your life. Trust that your agent is looking out for you on your way to a successful closing and move.
Be flexible
The mortgage process takes time. There are glitches in the home buying process. Although your agent will do everything possible to prepare you for your home purchase, there is no such thing as a perfect move. The property inspection may reveal that repairs are needed. You may have to wait for the repairs to be completed. The bank may be taking longer than normal or is asking for extra paperwork. Relax and let your mortgage and real estate professional help you along the way. Sure the closing may be delayed for some reason, but you are getting your dream home. Enjoy your move.
Seek relaxation and fun
Whenever you feel things are spinning out of control, find a diversion! Go shopping (Just don't put it on credit cards and through your debt ratio out of wack) Explore your new neighborhood; take a mini vacation. Check out the new restaurants by the new home. Take the family to a movie or the beach. Whatever relaxes you, go do it. While you are waiting for the moving process to run it's course, enjoy your life. Remember to take one "step" at a time.
I hope these tips help you when you relocate to Michigan or just move in Michigan. Whether it is Wayne County Real Estate, Oakland County Real estate, or any Detroit area home I want your move to be easier whether you used me as a Realtor or Mortgage person or not. May your new home bring you lots of great memories.
