| How to pick a neighborhood |
| Every Wayne County neighborhood is different. Every Oakland County neighborhood is different. Every Livingstone County neighborhood is different. It is strongly recommended that you research the neighborhood you plan on living in before buying your home. The steps I recommend are 1) Get out and ask questions of the neighbors. They will be glad you asked them. You will have made a friend already before you moved in. 2) Go through the neighborhood at different times of the day. At night. When you would be going to work, when kids get let out of school. In the morning. Get a feel of the neighborhood. 3) Take a walk thru the neighborhood. 4) Read the association bylaws if they have them. It is even advisable that you park nearby and walk to neighborhood after the normal work day is done to see what the area is really like! Stand outside and listen to the noise levels at different times of the day. Depending on your own particular needs and tastes, some factors may be more important considerations than others: How is the quality of schools ? How do the property values compare to the rest of the city? How close are the parks? How is the traffic in and out of the neighborhood? Can you get out of the sub easily? How close are you to work? Drive your commute from the new house? How close are the grocery stores, pharmacy, hospital, malls, and other stores you frequent? what is the crime rate for the city? What is the vacant land around zoned for? Do you have easy access to the freeways? Are there a lot of homes for sale? Ask why? How close are you to airports, beaches, parks, stadiums and cultural activities such as museums, concerts and theaters? How close are you to Detroit? When you are buying Livonia real estate, or Novi real estate or any Michigan home get out of your car and out of the home and check the neighborhood out.
