Looking past the decor

Too many times my clients walk into a house and walk out because of the decor.  You need to step back and imagine the house without the decor.  

Too many times it has been a house that has all the features my client is asking for but it has bright vegetable wallpaper in the kitchen.   Or it has a country them, or southwestern decor.  Those items are not going to be there.  "Grandma is going to move out with all her knick knacks".  Your beautiful furniture is going to replace it.

Look past the decor.  It may fit all the criteria you want except for the decor.  Don't just do a quick walk thru.  I can understand if there is a ton of wall paper.  Then it is major work and renovation.  But if it is only one odd room of flowered wallpaper.  Think about the basic house.  Thing about the room if it was painted a nuetral color.  Or painted in the colors you want.  This is the toughest thing you might have to do when looking at houses.

Look past those mounted animal heads.  Would that spacious living room with the open floor plan be great for you family.

This is how you pick out your Wayne County home, your Livingston county home, your Oakland county home.  You may find your Michigan dream home behind that wallpaper and the decor.
