Milford MichiganWhat is Milford like?  I would compare Milford to be like one of the quaint hometown towns that you see in those "Hallmark Christmas movies" or in the "Bridges of Madison County".  Milford is not in the sticks or the booney's.  It is relatively semi urban.  It is about a 15 minute ride to I-696 expressway from downtown Milford.  Or a 7 minute ride up to M-59.

I say Milford is like one of those quaint hometowns because it is a homey downtown.  In some cities the local residents do not come downtown often.  It is not that way with Milford.  The local residents hang out in the downtown area.  They come to the bars, shops and restaurants.  Milfords downtown development authority plans lots of great events for the downtown area.  Events that draw people from all over to visit, shop, and eat in downtown Milford.  To give you an idea of the town Milford Road runs right through the center of the town.  Milford Road is the direct road or connection from I-696 to M-59.  Milford is home to many national, regional and family-owned shops, Milford boasts over 30 restaurants in a downtown surrounded by green open space and dissected by a well-traveled river.

If you come to Milford and frequent the downtown stores and restaurants they will know your name.  There are bars and restaurants in the area that the locals hang out in.  It is almost like being at "Cheers".  You can chose to be one of the well known local or you can be anonymous.  You do not have to be one of the well know locals.  That is OK too.

Milford Memories Milford MIAt the center of town is the charismatic, walkable downtown, established just before the turn of the century, which is manicured with public gardens, parks and updated streetscapes.  You will find homes and places on the National Register of Historic Places in Milford.  It serves as the natural meeting place ---or public square---of all of the surrounding townships, including Milford, Highland, Commerce, White Lake and portions of Lyon.  Local events routinely attract visitors from these areas, including over 200,000 annually to Milford Memories and more than 1500 weekly to concerts at the newly installed LaFontaine Family Amphitheater.

Homes Milford MI

Many of the homes around the downtown area are older.  They range in age from the mid 1800's to present day.  Homes were built in the early 1900's, the 1950's, and even newer.  You are going to find quite a few Victorian homes from the 1860's to the 1920's.  If you drive the streets around downtown Milford you will find that the many of the homes have been wonderfully restored and updated.  You are going to find well maintained homes and manicured lawns and yards.  Local home buyers want to live in Milford so they can walk to the downtown area.

Milford Homes for sale Oakland County MIPeople around here say Milford even though there are really two communities.  The Village of Milford and Milford Township are two separate governments but people refer to the area as one and the same.  It's just Milford.

Whatever type of homes you are looking for you can find it in Milford.  There are small 1000 square foot ranches, 1800 square foot Victorian homes, homes on acreage, horse farms, homes with pole barns, and lots of subdivisions.  Subdivisions that the homes have some space around them.

There are quite a few condominium complexes close to downtown too.  Most of these condos are newer and have the latest amenities.

Milford Proving Grounds

The Village of Milford is 2.5 square miles nestled in southwest Oakland County and is easily accessed from both I-96 and M-59.  It is surrounded by Milford Township.   Part of General Motors proving grounds lie in Milford.  The proving grounds draws a lot of GM employees to live in the area. The proving grounds cover 4,000 acres (1,600 ha). 4,800 staff work in its 142 buildings today.  See the below map.

The Huron River is a designated National Water Trail© and attracts thousands of users through the Village. A state-of-the-art bike path connects enthusiasts from downtown to Kensington Metro Park and beyond to a network of Milford Michigantrails throughout Oakland and Livingston County. Nearly one third of the Village is parkland. And, within five miles is Proud Lake State Park, Highland State Recreation Area, Lyon Oaks and Camp Dearborn.

Milford Township is a charter township of Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 15,736 at the 2010 census. The village of Milford is located within the township.

This is what Milford is like?  It is a great community if you are looking to relocate to Oakland County in Southeast Michigan.  Milford Michigan is a community that is safe.  You and your family will be welcome here.  If you need a guide and a great realtor give me a call.  248-310-6239  I will make you move easier.
