Facts and information about Wolverine Lake MI

Village of Wolverine Lake MIWolverine Lake is a community that popped up around a lake.  The lake now called Wolverine Lake was created in the 1920s through a private project funded by local dentist and developer Howard Stuart. Wolverine Lake was created from six small lakes.  They were just tiny little lakes.  They were called Spring Lake, Mayze Lake, Pork Barrel Lake, Bicking Lake, Taylor Lake and Bradley Lake, all surrounded by marsh land.  Once he completed the damn he was able to sell the lake lots and other nearby lots.  Now they were in demand by metro Detroit residents.  For years since the early 1900's Detroiters drove out to Oakland County lakes to get away from the city on the weekends.  Places like Wolverine Lake village became vacation get aways for metro Detroit residents.

So where is the village of Wolverine Lake located at?

Wixom is to the west.  Novi and Walled Lake are to the south and Commerce and West Bloomfield is to the east.  M-5 connector is a few miles to the east and I-696 lies to the south.  You can be on both expressways/connectors in less than 10 minutes.  It takes about 35 to 40 minutes to get to Detroit's metro airport and about a 40 to 45 minute ride to get to downtown.  The village is about 30 minutes to Brighton and 45 minutes to Ann Arbor via the expressways.  Work or whatever you need is fairly close.

Wolverine Lake homes for sale MIThe village of Wolverine Lake is a quiet community.  It is a small community that is only 1.68 square miles in size.  It basically encompasses the lake and surrounding streets.  The lake is about 265 acres in size.  It is about .41 acres of water.  The actual land size of the village of Wolverine Lake is 1.27 acres.  Like so many of the lakes in metro Detroit the developers sold off small lots.  Some as small as 32 and 38 feet wide.  Lake cottages at the time were not that big.  Many cottages back before 1950 were from 600 square feet to 1000 square foot.  A lake home or any home bigger than 1000 square feet was considered a "big" house in that time period.

The common trend was that the lake lots were sold off.  Some people could not afford a lake lot or could not find one to buy.  They then bought homes down side streets from the lake.  They were smaller homes too.  As the years rolled by the smaller lake cottages have become year round homes for the most part.  Some have been remodeled and/or added onto. Some were torn down to make way for newer and bigger lake homes over the years.  Empty lots were sold and built on.  They are still remodeling and re-building lake homes to the days.  There are still some scattered lots around the village.  You are not going to find mega mansions or estate homes in Wolverine Lake village.

You cannot talk about the village of Wolverine Lake without talking about the lake itself.  The lakes is a 265 acres public all sports lake.  There is a DNR public boat launch behind the village offices.  It is a "T" shaped lake with several islands.  There are multiple bays, canals, and peninsulas.  There are lots of contours on the lake, much more fun than a round lake.  It is a relatively shallow lake with the average depth of 5 foot, but there are some deep holes on the lake.  The deepest spot is 58 feet deep. The western part of the lake is natural along Benstein Road. The lake does not connect to Twin Suns lake to the west.

If you are looking for a home for sale in the village of Wolverine lake you will have many choices.  There are colonials, ranches, bungalows, cape cods, and split level homes.  I would say the majority of the homes are in the 1000 square foot to 2500 square foot range.  Though there are some homes in the 4000 to 5500 square foot.  These bigger modern homes will have many of the ammenities that home buyers want.  They will have great rooms, open layouts, gourmet style spacious kitchens, large master bedroom suites with master bath and walkin closets.  They will have basements in most cases and have 2, 3, and 4 car garages.

Many of the bigger homes will be on the lake, but you will still find small 800 square foot ranches on the lake.  You will find that many of the lake homes have been updated at least once over the years.  Some homes now sit on two lots and have a little more space.  But if I had to categorize homes on the lake is would say they are closer together.  If you are looking for a lake home that has space, acreage, or privacy you probably are not going to find it on Wolverine Lake.

Bottom line you will find all sizes, styles, and ages of homes in the village of Wolverine Lake.  You will find nicely manicured lawns, and mature trees on the surrounding streets of the lake.
