Garden City

Garden City real estate

Garden City real estate is mainly starter homes built in the 1950's and 1960's.  The majority of the homes are in the 900 to 1200 square foot range.  Yes there are Garden City homes that are 2000+ but the majority of them are smaller.

If you had to describe if Garden City was white collar or blue collar, I would call Garden City a blue collar community of hard working people.  Yes there are also many white collar workers that live there too.

Most of the homes are either bungalows or ranches.  Many times the bigger homes or colonial homes are bungalows or ranches that have been added onto.

About

The city was named just after World War I when it was developed as a suburban community for autoworkers looking for houses with lots large enough for gardens. Indeed the name of the area is derived from its resident's long-time interest in landscaping and gardening.

In June 1927, Garden City became a village, with Arnold Folker as Village President. Six years later the village became the city of Garden City. Areas of interest in Garden City include the first Kmart store (opened 1962 and still in use), the first Little Caesars (also still in use), and the first dine-in McDonalds in Michigan. The honeymoon cottage of Henry Ford and his wife, Clara Jane Bryant, was moved here from Dearborn in 1952
