If Commerce Township Michigan is one of the communities you are interested in living you will be glad to know that there is a wide variety of Commerce Township real estate. So you will be able to find a Commerce Twp lakefront home, or a home in a Commerce subdivision, or a home with some space/land. There are so many styles of homes in the township. There are tri-levels, colonials, ranches, contemporary, quad-levels, and cape cods. The township is part of Oakland County's lake area. Oakland County has more lakes than any other county in Michigan.
Most of the homes were built from the 1940's to the present time. Since the building boom of the 1980's, the size of the homes, the number of homes & new real estate in Commerce Michigan has grown. New subdivisions popped up throughout the area, but many of Commerce Township subdivision have homes with larger lots. I guess you could say homes are not jammed in together. Some have 1/2 and 3/4 acre lots. The landscape is rolling hills accompanied by large areas of flat land for farming. You will still find active farms in the area (such as Longs Apple Orchards).

Recreation
Do you love the outdoors? If you do then you will find many local, county, and state parks to enjoy the outdoors near the township. A large part of the Proud Lake State Recreation Area is located in Commerce Township. Also nearby are Kensington, Highland State recreational area, and Camp Dearborn. Many of the lakefront homes in Commerce Township are on all sportslakes. Some are public lakes, but there are some private ones too. There are a few smaller lakes that do not allow motorized watercraft. The most popular all sport lakes are Union Lake, Commerce Lake, Lower Straits Lake, Middle Straits Lake, Lake Sherwood, Proud Lake and Wolverine Lake.
Schools
There are two school districts for the homes in Commerce Township. If you are looking at Commerce MI real estate be sure to ask your realtor which school district the house is in. The first being Walled Lake Consolidated Schools (where the administrative building is located off of Ladd Road. Recently Walled Lake Central was named as one of the top five percent schools in the nation.
The Township of Commerce is also known as the Charter Township of Commerce. It is located approximately 40 miles southeast of Detroit in western Oakland County. Commerce Township borders West Bloomfield, White Lake, Milford, Walled Lake, the Village of Wolverine Lake, Novi, Highland, Lyon Township and Wixom.
Because there are so many lakes in Commerce many of the roads are curvy and only two lanes. To get to downtown Detroit it would take close to or over an hour to get home in the township. The new M-5 expressway has made getting to Commerce much easier. M-5 will connect you to I-275 and I-96 expressways.
Crime, Safety, Police and fire
Worried about the crime if you bought a Commerce home? How safe is Commerce MI? You can feel safe within the township with police services provided from the Oakland County Sheriff´s Office. You can safely walk down the street in the township without getting robbed. It is what I would call a safe city with just random crime. Crime happens everywhere and Commerce Michigan is no different. But if you accidently left your car open or your homes door unlocked one day it is most likely that your possessions are not going to be gone.
The Commerce Township Fire Department has 17 full-time personnel and 25 part-time/on-call firefighters. The EMS teams are licensed with the State of Michigan and full-time are licensed as paramedics, or emergency medical technicians.
Demographics
If you are moving to Michigan you probably want to know more about the area. You don't want to buy Commerce Township real estate to find out you don't fit in. So check out the local city websites, you tube, and the census bureau website too. You will find that Commerce is a place you will be glad to move to. Here are some facts about the township. According to the 2010 census the population of Commerce Township Michigan was 40,186, which is up from the 2000 census where there were 34,764 people living in the area. The 2000 census provides us with the information that there were 12,379 households and 9,754 families living in Commerce Township at the time. Out of the 12,379 households 42.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.4% were married couples living together, 17% of the households were made up of individuals and 4.3% had someone living in the home who was age 65 or older. The population density for square mile was 1,261, with an average housing unit density of 468.8 per square mile. The average income for a household in Commerce Township was $72,702 and for a family was $79,976. The median income for males was $61,087, whereas females was $36,125.
