Often the homeowner has lived there so long that their taxes are based on the taxable value of the property which is lower because the home is homesteaded. The taxes can only go up so much per year even though the SEV is much higher. Unfortunately when you buy a home the taxes are now bases on the SEV and not the purchase price. 4.) Is the amount of taxes paid comparable to other properties in the area? If not, it might be possible to appeal the tax assessment and lower the rate? This is possible if the homes in the area are now selling for less than the SEV
